
She was suffering from strong head ache attacks for last 20 yrs. She has headaches on almost all the days of the month. The head ache is worst in the morning. Headaches are severe and unilateral. Always the headaches are preceded by hour long visual fortification spectra accompanied by vomiting and photophobia. It may come again without any reason and now become much more frequent. She says, she is working in a very stressful situation and the stress also aggravates the condition sometimes. She finds relief by lying down in darkened room and also she has resorted to analgesics.
Western doctors diagnosed her condition as migraine and she used to get pain killers whenever necessary. She had great difficulties to get continuous sleep. She had a very slow digestion and low appetite; she was emotionally very sensitive.
She got admitted to our institution on 13 October 2009. She came here very tired with a strong head ache after the air travel. She vomited twice and her appetite was very poor.
After a careful evaluation and clinical examination we came to the diagnosis of "Ardhavabhedaka" .
Started Pathyaksha dhathryadi kashayam 15 ml with a pinch of jaggery at 6 am and 6 pm. Also black gram with jaggery( 10 gm of each) at 11 am and 3 pm
Started Lepanam on the forehead with kachooradi choornam and lemon juice warmed together and advised Light warm liquid food with complete rest in the room.
Stopped the medicine after 2 days and started Snehapanam with Varanadi ghrithm for 7 days.
After finishing Snehapanam did abhyangam using Kottam chukkadi and Karpooradi thailam for 2 days.
Virechanam with Avipathy choornam done .after which light diet with low spices was advised according to the digestive capacity.
Restarted medicines including Pathyaksha dhathryadi kashayam, Vilwadi leham – 5g each 3 times a day after food and Restarted medicines including Pathyaksha dhathryadi kashayam, Vilwadi leham – 5g each 3 times a day after food and Aswagandha tablet – 2 at bed time. – 2 at bed time.
Sirodhara with Sudhabala started also did Nasyam with Varanadi Ksheera Ghritham for 7 days.
After few more days of rest she got discharged with the same medicines and dietary advises to follow at home. Advised to continue Balahatadi keram for external application on head and also Nasyam with Varanadi ksheera ghritm 3 drops in each nostril.
She was re admitted on 5th May 2010. She was very happy with the improvements she got with ayurvedic treatments. The frequency of head – ache reduced to once in a fortnight. She could manage her stress better than before. And her sleep was also very good. At the time of discharge advised to continue the medications as before.
Again she got admitted to our center on 29th January 2011. Undergone a course of treatment for 14 days .During those 14 days she had a head- ache attack once, but not so severe like before. She informed that she is having head ache once in a month with very less intensity. Advised to repeat the course with in an interval of one year.
PATIENT PROFILE: 53 year old German male working in fisheries department.
The patient presented with general weakness of the body, tremor, difficulty in balancing the body, difficulty in swallowing, constipation, insomnia, emotional instabilities, muscle cramps, visual disturbances, speech changes, low back ache, pain in Achilles tendon, numbness of both upper limbs and wasting of muscles of hands and deltoid region. Patient was not on any medication since one year.
The symptoms started before two years with sleeping disturbances, constipation, slight muscle cramps, mild tremor on hands and postural instabilities which gradually worsened in course of time. Gradually he developed some problems with vision and speech. He consulted a doctor and was diagnosed of Parkinsonism. He took allopathic medicines for one year. Then he discontinued the medicines as he found no noticeable improvement in his condition. His condition got worsened again with loss of energy, increased tremor, difficulty in swallowing, muscle wasting etc. He opted for an ayurvedic treatment hoping for better results.
He got admitted to our institution on 15th February 2010. After a detailed consultation, to start with a combination of Dhanadanayanadi kashayam and Valiyarasnadi kashayam 15 ml each with 60 ml of luke warm water were given twice daily 6 am and 6 pm. Athmaguptha choornam 5g with milk was given at bedtime. Aswagandharishtam 30ml with one Manasamithravatakam tablet was given twice daily. On the first day an abhyangam with Dhanwantharam thailam+Mahamasha thailam for body and Chandanadi thailam for head was done. Udwarthanam with Kolakulathadi choornam was done for 5 days. On these days Lepanam with Kottamchukkadi choornam+Jatamayadi choornam mixed with Dhanyamlam was applied on lower back. Lepanam with Marma gulika mixed with salt was applied on the Achilles tendon. After this no worthy change was found in his condition. His sleep was found to be better but emotional swings were still present.2 Aswagandha tablets were given in the evening. As he had flatulence and constipation Hinguvachadi choornam 5g was given with buttermilk before lunch. For the next seven days Pathrapotala swedam was done. These days Thalam with Ksheerabala101 was done in the afternoon. The patient found his sleep to be much better. Emotional swings were also less. Constipation and flatulence were almost relieved.Pizhichil with Mahamasha Thailam was done for the next seven days. Sirovasthi with Ksheerabala thailam was done in the afternoon. There were remarkable improvements in balancing the body. Virechanam was done with Gandharvahasthadi erandam30ml mixed with warm milk. Navarakkizhi was done for the next 7days.On these days Ksheeradhoomam with Bala decoction and Nasyam with Ksheerabala101 four drops were done. After completing the course of treatment (28 days) it was noted that the patient showed remarkable improvement in muscle cramps, low back ache, Achilles tendon pain, constipation and speech. Improvement in the pill rolling movement of fingers noticed. Staring look relieved slightly. Also there was much improvement in micrographia.
The patient was given the same internal medications that he used to have in the hospital as his follow up medicines for the next three months and advised to repeat the course of treatment within one year. He is planning for his next visit in January 2011.
