Rajah Healthy Acres- 7 days package for 50 plus age group.

Ayurveda divides the total human life span into three –Balyam,Youvanam and Vardhakyam.Most of the major health problems appearing in the middle age are either reflections of the past life or warning signals for the future. In both cases it is a time to start thinking about health,make necessary changes in the lifestyle and thus to find out a proper way to an “active ageing.” Evidence shows that many of the cases such as heart disease, cancer, stroke, some lung diseases, injuries, and HIV/AIDS, often can be prevented by improving personal health habits. Eating right, staying physically active, and an open mind are a few examples of good habits that can help you stay healthy. Eating the right foods and the right amounts of foods can help you live a longer, healthier life. Research has proven that many illnesses—such as diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure—can be prevented or controlled by eating right. Try to balance the calories you get from food with the calories you use through physical activity.

There is much the individual can do to remain active and healthy in later life. The right lifestyle, involvement in family and society and a supportive environment preserve well-being.

Weight Control

Weighing too much or too little can lead to health problems. After age 45, many people gain too much weight. You can control your weight by eating healthy foods and being physically active.

Physical Activity
Research shows that physical activity can help prevent at least six diseases: heart disease, high blood pressure, obesity (excess weight), diabetes, osteoporosis, and mental disorders, such as depression. Physical activity also will help you feel better and stay at a healthy weight. Research suggests that brisk walking can be just as good for you as an activity such as jogging. The WHO says chronic diseases including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer are predicted to be "the main contributors to the burden of disease" .

Let us have a look at some common health problems which usually show up in the 50 plus period.

01.Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

About 25% of adults, at some point are affected by this disease. High blood pressure makes the heart labor harder to keep high pumping pressures, in time impairing the heart muscle. There is an increase in hypertension among males and in the elderly. High blood pressure is a disease that must be taken seriously because of the damage that it can do to other tissues. Unless the disease is in advanced stages, the presence of symptoms is not usual.

Lifestyle changes are important in managing and bringing down your high value readings.

stopping smoking (prevents additional damage to heart, lungs and arteries);

lower saturated fats in diet (this lowers blood pressure);

reduce stress (therapy and meditation are usually helpful)

exercise (Your health care provider will help determine what exercises are appropriate for you after evaluating your condition. Never undertake a rigorous exercise program without a medical clearance from your health care provider. Generally, some form of aerobic exercise is recommended because it not only strengthens the heart and keeps blood pressure under control but also helps with weight loss and stress reduction.)

reduce alcohol, caffeine and salt intake;

lose weight.

  02.Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis. Arthritis refers to any condition where there is inflammation of the joints. Osteoarthritis, also called "degenerative joint disease", is caused by the wearing away of the cartilage that covers the bone-ends that meet at the joints. Osteoarthritis eventually causes stiffness and swelling of the joints.

If a person develops osteoarthritis, it is very important that they reduce their weight in order to prevent rapid deterioration of the joints. Poor posture, lack of exercise, overuse of the joints, and naturally defective cartilage can all increase the risk of being affected.

The incidence of osteoarthritis greatly increases with age. Women are more likely to develop osteoarthritis than men.

SYMPTOMS

The symptoms of osteoarthritis include:

pain, aches and stiffness in the joints

enlargement of the last joint of the fingers

bony swelling in the joint

crackling noises when the joint is moved

mild inflammation in a joint; it is rheumatoid arthritis that causes intense inflammation

loss of joint mobility

TREATMENT

If left untreated, the disease can cause a great deal of pain and potentially demobilize the affected person. In most cases, treatment consists of resting the joints, exercise, and medication to reduce swelling. Personal relaxation methods that focus on breathing or light stretching are helpful. Exercise is very important because it increases the strength of the muscles surrounding the joint, which reduces strain on the joint.

Another form of treatment that can reduce strain on the joint is proper diet. If a person is obese, they can greatly mitigate the joint pain by losing weight. Loss of weight can also slow down the disease's progress, which can be accelerated by excess pressure placed on the joints due to obesity.

Another possible treatment is using either hot or cold compresses.
